Sudeshna Roy is an Indian film director, actor, and writer based in Tollywood. She began her career as an entertainment journalist before transitioning into filmmaking in collaboration with director Abhijit Guha. A prominent figure in the Bengali entertainment industry, she has directed numerous films, acted in several movies, daily soaps, and web series.

The directorial duo debuted with Shudhu Tumi and went on to create films across various genres, gaining recognition for their urban, middle-class romantic comedies. In 2009, they introduced Abir Chatterjee to the industry through Cross Connection. They gained prominence with their critically acclaimed film Teen Yaari Kotha, which competed at Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema (2012) and was featured at the Bangkok International Film Festival and Kolkata International Film Festival.

Their film Bapi Bari Jaa is considered a cult classic among Bengali film enthusiasts and marked the debut of Arjun Chakraborty and Mimi Chakraborty. Another successful project, Jodi Love Dilena Praane, was selected for the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India (2014) and showcased at the Pune Film Festival, later earning a certificate of appreciation at the Fiji International Film Festival (2015).

In 2016, their film Benche Thakar Gaan: The Song of Life made history as the first Bengali-language film selected as the inaugural film for the Kolkata International Film Festival, running in theaters for nine weeks. Their film Sraboner Dhara was part of the Asian Select Competition Section at KIFF 2019 and was showcased at IFFSA Toronto (2019) before its release in India on February 7, 2020. The film was performing successfully in theaters until the COVID-19 lockdown cut short its run.
